The Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology encourages on-line submission of applications for all positions.  Please send application materials to the email addresses provided in the ads below. Students interested in CBCB should apply to the Ph.D. programs of one of our participating departments: Computer Science, Mathematics, Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics, Biology, and BioEngineering.

Open Positions at CBCB

  • Summer Internships (Summer 2010). CBCB is now accepting applications for summer internships for undergraduate and high-school students. More information can be found here.

  • Faculty position open immediately (Fall 2009). CBCB, in conjunction with the Department of Computer Science, is looking for tenure-track faculty at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. An advertisement can be found on the CS website, which also has instructions on how applicants may directly submit their CVs and other materials on that site. Applicants should apply following those instructions.

This is a high-priority search for candidates with a Ph.D. in Computer Science (or very closely related discipline) whose main research interests are in bioinformatics and computational biology. Note that we are seeking to interview and hire candidates during the fall and early winter months, which is earlier than usual for most searches. Candidates will be interviewing for positions to start in the 2010-11 academic year, although candidates interested in starting in January 2010 are encouraged to apply as well. Please visit the Computer Science website for application instructions.

  • Faculty position open immediately (Fall-Winter 2009). CBCB, in conjunction with the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics, is looking for tenure-track faculty at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. CBCB and CBMG are seeking individuals who lead outstanding research programs addressing questions of broad significance in human genomics, host-pathogen genomics and/or computational aspects of genomics and bioinformatics. A complete description of the new position can be found on the CBMG website, which also has instructions on how applicants may directly submit their CVs and other materials on that site. Applicants should apply following those instructions.

  • Steven Salzberg is looking for 1-2 post-doctoral scientists to participate in research in one or more of the following areas:
    • transcriptome analysis using RNA-Seq data from next-generation sequencing experiments
    • computational gene finding, with particular emphasis on eukaryotic genomes
    • genome assembly tools and algorithms that address the requirements of novel DNA sequencing technologies
    • human microbiome studies, focusing on methods for analysis of large-scale sequencing studies of metagenomic samples.
A Ph.D. in computer science, bioinformatics, or closely related discipline is preferred. Applicants with Ph.D. training in genomics, genetics, bioengineering, molecular biology or related fields, and with strong programming skills will also be considered.  For more information contact cbcb-jobs [at] umiacs.umd.edu; make sure to mention your interest in this postdoctoral position.
