Information for Prospective Students
Students interested in Ph.D. studies in CBCB have a number of
choices. While we do not have a Ph.D. program specifically in
Bioinformatics, our faculty supervise Ph.D. research in bioinformatics
through a number of different graduate programs. Links to these
programs can be found on this page, and potential students are
encouraged to apply to the Ph.D. program that best matches their
interests.
Students with a background in computer science, mathematics,
physics, or other mathematically oriented fields should consider
applying to the Ph.D. program in Computer Science or in Bioengineering.
The Bioengineering program has been in place at the University of
Maryland for several years, and in 2006 Bioengineering was launched as
a new Department, which is slated to grow substantially over the next
five years. Students whose principal training is in the biological
sciences might prefer to apply to one of several departmental or
inter-department programs listed below. CBCB Faculty belong to each of
these programs, allowing students with an interest in Bioinformatics to
pursue a Ph.D. in the program that bests fits their previous training.
See the links below for instructions on how to apply to each
program. Once admitted to a program, students are encouraged to contact
faculty directly to discuss their interests further.
